Choose your words

Art exhibition, Beeldende Kunst, Contemporary Art, Object art, photograpy

This summer my work ‘Choose your words’ is selected for and part of the exhibition: Refresh Amsterdam #3: Imagine the future, to be seen in the Amsterdam Museum at the Amstel 51, Amsterdam until 30th november 2025

I was asked to think about a wish for the future to create or generate a more harmonious environment in which we all live and have to deal with eachothers behavior. My reaction to this question happened quite instinctively and I came up with this protest about using language more carefully.

Augustenburg

Art, assemblage, Beeldende Kunst, Collage, Contemporary Art, Dutch Contemporain Artist, Landscape, Mixed media, Object art, Painting, photograpy, Small paintings

From a photo to a artwork. A landscape I walked through last summer when I was in Denmark. It’s the park around the ‘Augustenburg’ estate. I was struck by the effect of the large trees and shadows surrounding the path that surrounds the castle. I didn’t want to reproduce the photo one on one, but I kept an certain impression in my head during the creation of this work. Combined from found pieces of wood and added panels and rest materials. It has become a combination of abstract, a bit impressionistic and best figurative for me. Sometimes you can’t avoid a tree.

Lost & Found Series One

Art, assemblage, Beeldende Kunst, Dutch Contemporain Artist, Mixed media, Object art, photograpy, Stil Life

I started to make these assemblages from februari 2020 until november 2020 using photographs of building waste in a container on the street. Finding a way to use these photo’s I first started with framing of the image. Most of them are blown out of proportion to find a new composition in which the origin in less obvious. Along with changing the cadre the context changes. It’s not just building waste anymore but more an abstract composition which make you see spaces within the picture. To make a layering and even to surprise myself in the assemblage, I added materials, such as found wood, plastic bottle mini sculptures or just pieces of different wooden slats, some new, some old. This all led to found works with lost materials.

Rhododendron

Art, Collage, Contemporary, photograpy

These photo collages are a study of form and an inspiration for sculptural works. I have a fascination for the shapes, size and rhythm of these beautiful rhododendrons. To me they can also be enjoyed just for what they are. One of many important structures of bedding that shape the environment which we live in or spaces we pass through, especially parks. By using these photo’s in a collage manner of working, I was able to move them just the way I wanted. Will be continued….
