It’s only mountains (and the sea)

Preparing a day at the park…

These are studies for making a big size work that I wanted to realize for my participation at the colorfield performance in the summer of ’23. My goal was to make a colorful minimal work with abstract organic shapes and round forms. This idea of these round dots came from my sketches in which I just started to draw stains with colour until it became a form which satisfied me as such. There is still a lot more of experimenting to do with that. For the painting which I had to realize in one day at the project, it had to be recognizable as a landscape but somewhat in between abstract and figurative. How far can you go with abstraction en what do you accept as a recognizable form?

‘Good Intentions’ 30x40cm. Wood, cardboard, polyurethaan, paint. August Robin Peters 11/2021

A deconstruction op a ‘verspakket’ packaging. Through working with packaging boxes for my small compositions, this one came out parallel during the proces of making. A very old and not finished painting on a wooden panel became the background for this non narrative work. it is the first time that I used the packaging on a non dimensional scale, in spite of good intentions the black ‘ribbon’ made it 3-dimension again, because I felt it worked too strong not to be part of it.

Different outcomes with all the same packaging boxes from an AH verspakket, de-folded and re-arranged with an exploratory attitude to see what ingredients you can set out to make a painting without narrative.

First series abstract compositions on cardboard packaging

Art, Beeldende Kunst, Contemporary Art, Object art, Painting, Paper Art

A serie of concept painting on cardboard ‘verspakketten’ from a big grocer in the Netherlands. AH! A way to recycle packaging material and to paint on something different than prepared linnen. The concept is that I deconstruct the verspakket box and cut out the four corners which I use as a pattern at random to make an image. it is the combination of the paint and the cardboard that I find very attractive. Often the paint becomes the glue to stick the different collage-like parts to the new surface. And from scratch everything is open for me to decide on. Colour, composition, added materials, strokes fine and rough. The simple effect of paint and colour and the way the elements are making an image.
