Painting on paper – Acryl and collage on heavy paper. 50x65cm. August Robin Peters. February 2022.
During a stay in the early spring of 2021 in Ameland, I made some little drawings of the house I was staying. The holiday house was simple and basically an archetype of what a house is. A space with room for a lot of basic functions. The surroundings are so important when you’re staying on one of these Dutch “waddeneilanden” situated in the north of The Netherlands. It’s almost as if the house is a synonym for the resting mind, so open to everything you see or hear to come in and go out the house, like a breeze, a thought, almost working as a sponge. I tried to captured that feeling in this work. All the windows and see through elements and abstractions make the subject becoming more that just a house in an envirioment. It is a playful way of portraying a house.

‘Good Intentions’ 30x40cm. Wood, cardboard, polyurethaan, paint. August Robin Peters 11/2021
A deconstruction op a ‘verspakket’ packaging. Through working with packaging boxes for my small compositions, this one came out parallel during the proces of making. A very old and not finished painting on a wooden panel became the background for this non narrative work. it is the first time that I used the packaging on a non dimensional scale, in spite of good intentions the black ‘ribbon’ made it 3-dimension again, because I felt it worked too strong not to be part of it.

Changing the right-angle form into a more diamond-like or stone-like form gives them a more sculptural shape.
Different outcomes with all the same packaging boxes from an AH verspakket, de-folded and re-arranged with an exploratory attitude to see what ingredients you can set out to make a painting without narrative.

I started to make these framed works in the late winter of 2020, when pandemie still ruled the world and initiatives to put artists in the spotlight came across, such as artist support pledge. The plan was simple. Make an artwork to sell and share it on social media by using the hash-tack #artistsupportpledge. Which I did on my instagram account and sold 5 works. The price has to be under 200,- and if you sell for 1000,- in total, you pledge to buy another artwork of one of your colleagues. This was all to support artists in the time when every gallery was closed and there was no other way to exhibit your art. You can all read about it on www.artistsupportpledge.com
The compositions were a real experiment for me to work with. It was such a simple subject by using a packaging box from cardboard, which I unfold to make it as a canvas and use the rest pieces cardboard to make the compositions. Along the way, when im painting and things start to happen, other materials came into the picture. Every work stands on his own by the different appearances, but they come from the same process. That makes me want to continue still, because every little stroke of paint, little added pieces of paper, make such a difference. It changes all the time, till the work is completely balanced for me.
These framed works come in a wooden frame with glare-free glass and are friendly priced 150,- euro (inc. vat) The frame (20x28cm or 21x30cm) comes in natural wood, white or black and is included in the price.
