Installation for the project ‘Go your own way’ at Kunstruimte Kel-30, Biotoop – Haren ‘Landscape of tolerance’ – August Robin Peters – 2025

Landscape of tolerance originated from the desire to create a spatial representation. In the research, shapes were created that remain abstract but want to be figurative. When is an object accepted as a representation? Shapes are enlarged, stacked and hung loosely in space. The painting on cardboard were created by chance out of left-overs. Organized in a patch work manner and directed into a abstract form. Newspapers are painted; some fragments dissapear, other receive attention. The paper is stacked with news which become part of the layering and can not be seen as neutral anymore. Newspapers are sewn together, the thread makes the construction visable. The stacked boxes balance but take up space and hold their ground. Have we entered the setting of a play, with players about to enter the stage?

Artist Talk pt.1 & pt.2

Both collages works are made of left over cardboard. Pieces of cardboard lying around on the atelier floor when I’m working, I use these to stroke away paint with my brush to clean them. So most of the stains are coincidence, and some are not. Making a composition with these elements makes me take some control of the image. In these two works I combined them with not so coincidental stains and even copied pieces of dessins from fabrics and added them in the image, which give them the needed contrast and depth.

I called them ‘Artist Talk’ because of the different parts that make one image; different points of view but in dialogue with each other.

Here are some pictures of my first series of sculptured cardboard boxes, build up in a composition. You can look at these installations as if you were looking at an abstract painting with different colors and dimensions. When you walk around they give a different sight depending on the way you look at them. To me that was something that was an extra gift, when I put the individually made forms together as one image. There is so much more to do with it, the possibilities are endless, like a lego set of stones.
